Welcome to SGH - Szkoła Główna Handlowa, or in English, the Warsaw School of Economics. You have come here from near and far. You will be guests at our school for a few days, weeks, for a semester perhaps, or maybe even for a few years. You are students, grant holders, scholars, or simply tourists in search of interesting sights. Wherever you come from, you have arrived at a place that is all but unknown to you. You will discover the Main Building with its signature pyramid roof; Building A in Rakowiecka Street; and the library, set back from the busy Rakowiecka Street and Niepodległości Avenue and slightly less conspicuous. But there are more things to be seen, so the entire school campus is worth visiting. It stretches between the streets of Batorego, Puławska and Madalińskiego and includes roughly a dozen different buildings. The historical architecture, which dates back to the 1920s and 30s, radiates a unique atmosphere. The traditional layout of the surrounding houses and villas, separated by streets and plazas, provides perfect conditions for walking. Our school is located in Mokotów, which became a part of Warsaw a century ago. With some 220 thousand residents, it is one of the biggest districts in the capital. If you have come to our city only for a flying visit it will be hard to see it in its entirety, but our guide recommends six walking routes that are worth discovering.
This guide to the Warsaw School of Economics and its surrounds is intended as a tourist guide for students, but not only. You will find here essential information about the school and its history, but also some useful addresses: pharmacies, hospitals, post offices, police stations, and emergency services.
